Winmau is very excited to announce a new signing to the Winmau team, Layla Elansary, with Andy Jones (Simon Hall), of the Winmau Marketing Team, stating that they are honoured to be involved with her and are looking forward to Layla reaching her potential.
The 16-year-old nicknamed ‘The Board Whisperer’, is currently active playing her darts in Egypt where she is starting to turn heads and demonstrate real promise for the future. She has only been playing for just over 18 months but has already notched up four impressive competition wins, beginning with the EDPA (Egyptian Dart Players Association) Contenders Competition, followed by the Egyptian Darts Federation Youth title, which she successfully defended in June, and finally the Egyptian Darts Federation Women’s Singles title.
After winning her very first game in the initial EDF (Egyptian Darts Federation) Youth competition, she was spotted by a local club who signed her up on the spot before the tournament had even ended. This wise move ensured that they have gained the first three trophies in their club’s history. She is now ranked Number One both in the Under 18 Egyptian Girls and in the Egyptian Women’s, titles which she will soon be defending.
Layla, who is coached by Ahmed El Mowaled (Winmau representative in Egypt) trains both at home and with the EDPA, participating in their adult tournaments with increasing success. In the most recent of these, she took a strong lead against one of their most experienced players in the Quarter Final only to lose eventually after a spirited comeback by her opponent.
Looking to the future, Layla hopes to combine completing her schooling with participating in various WDF tournaments abroad, gaining experience and honing her skills. Joining the ever-growing youth Darts scene, Layla has her eyes set on Q-school and winning a PDC major. When asked how she sees the coming years, Layla summed it up:
“Well, I need to focus and train, focus and train, participate in as many tournaments as possible and then, hopefully …… the sky’s the limit.”
Layla will next be in action at the JDC Super 16 Qualifiers 5-8 on the 14th-15th October.
